I am a licensed Cosmetologist that practices esthetics. My blog is dedicated to beautiful skin from the inside to the outside. My post will be about healthy foods that help your skin from within and skin care regime for the outside. |
Delicious and nutritious, avocados have lots of B-complex vitamins and are a natural anti-inflammatory, which is great for the skin.
Avocados are a good source of fiber, and potassium. One globe contains more than one-third daily value of vitamin C, and more than half the day’s requirements of vitamin K.
Recent research shows that antioxidants such as lycopene and beta-carotene are better absorbed with the healthy monounsaturated fat that avocados have. So consider adding avocado or avocado oil to your salads.
This fruit is rich in calories, but very low in fats. They contain good amounts of anti-oxidants, minerals, and vitamins. Bananas have the B vitamin biotin, which builds healthy skin, hair and nails. It also helps prevent skin irritations such as dermatitis.
This fruit is also good source of vitamin C, which helps fight wrinkles, and free radicals.
My current moisturizer
The key to young and beautiful skin is to cleanse, tone, moisturize, and protect it on a daily basis. When you put moisturizer on your skin you help maintain your skins natural moisture level. The lotion acts as a sealant against pollution and other things in our environment. When your skin is dry, it is slower to heal, and more susceptible to skin damage and infection. Dryness also increases with age, so you can’t keep using the same moisturizer as you get older. But with any age you should use it both morning and night. It’s also never to early to start using things like serum or eye cream. Don’t think that because you have acne you can’t use moisturizer, it can actually heal up acne, just make sure to use an oil- free kind. When picking out moisturizer, make sure to read the labels. It might be more expensive, but that doesn’t necessarily make it better. Look for something plant based with vitamins and antioxidants. And of course don’t forget to hydrate from with in, by drinking plenty of water everyday.
Eat cottage cheese to get lots of calcium and selenium (antioxidants) for your skin. The main health benefit is that cottage cheese is low in fat and carbs and very high in protein. Mixing fruit into cottage cheese adds sweetness without sugar, healthy fiber, more vitamins and minerals and can turn plain cottage cheese into a treat. Or you can exchange your ricotta for it in a recipe.
This vegetable is absolutely loaded with vitamins and minerals with especially high concentrations of vitamins K and A and manganese and folate. It also helps prevent against osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer, ovarian cancer, and arthritis.
My favorite way to eat it is as a salad. Trade it out for your romaine lettuce, it’s a way healthier choice :)
Green tea was discovered by the Chinese over 4000 years ago. Today it is linked to fighting cancer and heart disease. With a higher concentration of anti-oxidants then other teas, green tea fights bacteria, inflammation, and reduces stress. What I love most about it is, that it aids in weight loss and helps fight free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron- they are inherently unstable, and are always trying to steal an electron from the other molecules around them. Thus starting a big domino effect. Free radicals come from a number of reasons including exposure to toxins (example: pollution.) However, the main reason is from UV exposure (fake or not) which causes 90% of your damage to your skin. So drink to the number of great things green tea does for your body, and keep a look out for skin care products with it in them. It’s also been linked to clearing up acne and psoriasis.
If you want bright eyes, shiny hair, and healthy skin, then make salmon a staple in your diet. This fish is one of the best sources out there for omega 3. Also linked to strengthening brain function, omega 3 works like magic from with in. It’s moisturizing power helps plump out wrinkles and smooths skin. Four ounces of wild salmon also gives you a full days worth of vitamin D and more than half of your B12 and selenium. In addition to that, it gives you almost 30 grams of protein. Whether you bake it, broil it, or grill it salmon has too many great benefits to ignore. So make it dinner tonight and shoot for at least 2 servings a week.
It’s true what they say…an apple a day keeps the doctor away. These delicious and crunchy little things help prevent cancer, heart disease, and stress just to name a few. A healthy and convenient snack, apples are low in calories and rich in fiber. They are a good source of vitamins A and B for added energy. They also have more vitamin C than an orange (more than 200% DV) not to mention some great anti-oxidants. All these things make it my favorite fruit to fight against wrinkles and free radicals. Just don’t skip on the skin because that’s where most of the nutrients are, and remember the longer you store it the more nutrients it loses, so eat up :)
After years of trying to clear my skin to no avail, even after graduating from beauty school, I still hadn’t figured it out. I started cutting things out of my diet and it worked!! My blog will consist of foods that are beneficial to your skin. Starting out with the most important (technically not a food) WATER. I know you’ve probably heard it a million times but I’m here to say it again. Its vital to keep your body hydrated. Your skin will not only feel dry but look it too. Your body will over produce oil to compensate and cause break outs. Lack of water also causes many health problems in your body. The average “eight glasses a day” doesn’t cut it for everyone. Take your weight and divide it by two and that’s how many ounces you need daily. Don’t forget to add extra when you workout or drink a caffeinated beverage.
